The Kenya Navy organized a sea ride tour for Service Personnel families, dependents and friends through the Kilindini channel to the Indian Ocean on Friday 13 Dec 19.

This ride came as an early festive gift carried out by the Kenya Navy warships aimed at acquainting and familiarizing family members on the roles and organization of the Kenya Navy as well as understand the duties undertaken by the ship’s crew.

The families converged at Mkunguni Jetty where they were received and briefed by the Fleet Master at Arms Warrant Officer One (WOI) Peter Mundia who briefed them on safety measures while embarking, underway and disembarking from the ships. Family members were provided with life jackets which is a basic requirement.

The sea ride tour comprised of KNS JASIRI commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Collins Owino, KNS SHUJAA under the command of Major Paul Kariuki and KNS SHUPAVU commanded by Major Faith Mwagandi.

The Senior Officer Afloat (SOA) and the Commanding Officer (CO) KNS JASIRI Lt Col Owino was the overall commander of the sea ride tour who before sailing held a meeting with all the ships command for the final execution of the sailing program.

This exercise not only aimed at introducing the families to a taste of sea experience but also act as mentoring platform to encourage the young ones to take up maritime related careers.

The families interacted with different personnel in diverse fields working onboard the ships including technicians, medics, coxswains (ship riders), gunners and radio operators.

A total of seven hundred (700) people partook the sea ride.
